This subject aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to write web content effectively for new media such as personal and corporate websites, weblogs and such. You will learn about common web user behaviours and how you can use and structure texts effectively in order to create impact on the web. You will also explore various social issues and responsibilities related to communicating through the new media.
If you watch the video Shift Happens, you will know why such a course as this is so important and useful in helping you to develop new digital literacies that are necessary for the new world we live in. The video has been created by American educators, Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod.
As the subject is all about styles and issues related to new media, we will try to use as much of new media as possible on the course. Thus, instead of using OLE, we will use this blog, newmediascapes.blogspot.com as our course blog. Do visit often to find our more about what we will be doing in our sessions.
We also have our class wikispace where we have more room for further discussions and activities.
Do contribute to this course blog by leaving your comments. While we may be relatively less formal here, do use standard English. Also, the usual netiquette applies, so no flaming, offensive language or behaviours, please.
I look forward to our explorations into the world of new media. I'm sure there are many exciting things to learn about the ever-evolving new media.
Enjoy the course!
